Listed Building Management

Listed buildings are determined by the Department of Culture, Media & Sport, in association with English Heritage. Listed buildings include castles, cathedrals, private houses, milestones, drinking fountains and buildings of special architectural or historic interest.

There are currently over 370,000 buildings protected as listed buildings. Any building work carried out on these buildings will require ‘listed building consent’, as per the Planning Act 1990. This can usually be obtained through a local planning authority and extends to cover minor works including simple repair works or even painting and decorating.
